Did an interview with Gamesmaster magazine a few days ago. I've never heard of it, but if you live in the UK i suppose it's something akin to Gameinformer. So, if there are any UK fans out there, you should pick up the January copy when it comes out.

Will Chapman, the owner of brickarms.com has been gracious enough to supply me with several choice plastic weapons that are not available on his site yet. We realized that my Halo-Lego movie will be a choice marketing opportunity for his products when it comes out, so he sent me some rare Halo weapons. Flickr and movie update

The Lego Zanzibar project is under way and I'm working on it every day. It's extremely tedious work but I'm determined to get it done. In the meantime, I've been researching where I'm going to take my animation skills after college. This career has to go somewhere, so I've been E-mailing some of the other animators out there who have made the greatest impact on my work, and hopefully they'll respond to my inquiries. There are also a lot of animation organizations out there that I have to join, such as ASIFA East. http://www.asifaeast.com/

Haven't updated in a while

Yet another German to English translation of the Lego Wii interview. Thanks for whoever did this. They didn't leave a name.

"Hi, I just translated the german response video to the Lego Wii. Maybe there are some mistakes in the text, so correct it please ;)

I translated everything but the text you say when you are interviewed.

A joung american builds the video game console Wii out of Lego, plugs it in, and - hard to beleave - it works and looks very similar to the original console.
This is just a joke for sure, and a video gaming console made out of lego only exists in the webclip. But: More than 2 million internetuser have already watched the video.
We found the author of the video in America: His name is Alex Kobz, he is 20 years-old, and studies film / video in massachusettes.
The clip was filmed at Alex Kobz' home and he is the leading actor. First you see him being glad about a package he just got from the post.
He opens it and discharges it over the table. But the Lego avalanche wont stop: He discharges and discharges and discharges, until there is a big heap of Legos on his table.
Then he builds the Console and even the remote-control is built absolutely true-to-detail. A really funny idea (in german lustig (funny) doesnt mean its strange,
it means its just fun), but not everybody liked the video: To his astonishment, Alex Cobs got bad reactions / comments to / on his video: Just because of some criticians,
he isnt sorry to have made the video. Instead he felt at a golf course how it feels to be an internet star. An idea which he got by sleeping has made alex Kobz famous.

German- English Translation!

Hey everybody. Thanks to German super-fan, Daniel V., the German interview has been roughly translated. It's not a perfect translation because he's only taken 3 years of English, but it's all I got so I declare it to be awesome! Here it is...

" Because some critics regretted Alex but not the video to have made. Instead he felt during a vacation in a miniature golf course, it feels like an Internet star to be. "A group of children are innocent and asked ohh you're Alex Kobz? And I said yes. Do you have the Internet Wii Lego made on the Internet? German Interview is Online!

Max just emailed me the completed cut of the Lego Wii interview that we had last week. It sounds awesome, but I don't understand anything he's saying. Sigh...the struggles of being uni-lingual. German is such a cool language too. I tried French and Spanish in school and performed an epic fail...so I don't think I could really do much better with this one. Anyway, here is the video that I've cut together so you can all listen to it.

Finally, I will be releasing a second teaser trailer for the Halo movie with actual footage, but not enough to give anything away. Secondly, I will be releasing a Lego Wii "how I did it" video. I'm sure any fans of the original video will appreciate it. Stay tuned for more updates on both projects. 

Panic!

Have you ever seen that deraccel commercial where there's a mother in a park and she realizes she lost her kid? Then she panics and looks around, but doesn't find him until she pulls out her hand-dandy child bracelet locator? Well, if you've ever had a mildly popular video begin to surface on the internet (or any content for that matter) you become a bit attached and proud of it, even if you say you aren't. So natturaly, when my Lego Wii video stopped playing and instead displayed a "this video is no longer available message," I began to panic. It was down for quite some time as I understand it, and this had never happened to one of my videos before. I thought it had been removed from the site----maybe Nintendo asked to have it taken down! But alas, my fears were quickly erased when I went onto the help forums and realized that it's just a generic message to indicate that the video is lagging/timing out. Whew. Just a small bump in the road...nothing major. The vid is back up and fine.

Die Russen Kommen!

I'm going to be on the radio in Germany! Apparently, my Lego Wii video has gained so much foreign interest that Max Reeg, an author at the Mitteldscher Rundfunk radio station in Germany, has asked for an interview. Among the obvious questions about the Lego Wii, I'll be talking about who I am, what I do, and my new Lego projects/videos. More information as it comes. I'll let everyone know when the interview's up.

Well, seeing as I'm trying to tie everything together, I've updated my youtube page, mocpage, and this blog page to co-exist with one-another. First Impressions

I'll be blunt and quick to the point.  My name is Alex Kobbs and I am an animator and Lego brick enthusiast. My college major is officially film, however I usually concentrate on animation. Stop-Motion is my specialty...used only for the power of good. I came to the worldwide internet scene in June 2007 when I revealed my Lego Wii video to the world. Originally made as my entry for the Nintendo Shortcuts video contest, this short 5 minute video gained more than 2.5 million views, and this number is still climbing today. My next major hit was the reveal of my Lego Zanzibar model ( a scale model of a multiplayer map from the Halo 2 video game, re-created entrely out of Lego bricks). The youtube video became one of the most circulated videos amongst gamers, appearing on major game-news sites such as Kotaku and earning it's spot on the front page of digg.com for a whole week. Today, I am currently going to college and honing my skills while reaching for my degree. When the summer rolls around, I'll finish work on my major Lego project that I've been working on for the last 6 years; a stop-motion short using Lego Spartans and the Lego Zanzibar diorama. I have a couple new projects up my sleeves that should excite Lego fans (and maybe some Starcraft fans) and I should be announcing these soon enough. I'm always looking for work, suggestions, and opportunities to network. Please feel free to contact me.
